One of my favourite things to watch on YouTube is people riding the trains in Tokyo. The sounds and announcements are so distinct that they instantly take my mind back to the city.
The other day, I realized how long it’s been since I rode the TTC, and I watched a TTC video instead. And it… didn’t really give me much nostalgia at all. Maybe I haven’t been away for long enough, or it might be that I’m still very much averse to riding public transit during a global pandemic. It does makes me wonder if there’s someone in Tokyo who reminisces about the quiet, indistinct sounds of Toronto’s public transit.
